And especially since you may just have a few days for a city break, we have narrowed down the list of amorous places to go in the area, and picked out the 4 most romantic things to do in Geneva during Valentines:

1. Ride The Mont-Salève Cable Car:

Some people call Mont-Salève a mountain or a ‘Pre-Alps,’ while still other people simply call it a large cliff. Whatever you deem it to be, it is a quick ride from city center to get to Mont-Salève, even though it is actually in France. You can hike Mont-Salève if you would like, even in the winter – but since what we are talking about here is romance – it is more scenic and cozy to ride the cable car to the top and then take in the gorgeous panoramic view of Mont Blanc (in the real Alps) and the city of Geneva once you get there. There are two restaurants at the top as well, and the whole thing can be done in one relaxing afternoon.

2. Take A Chocolate Factory Tour:

Two of the tours (Philippe Pascoët and Stettler Chocolate Factory) also teach you how to make chocolates and let you take your creations home. Making chocolates with your beloved has to be one of the more romantic things to do in Geneva during Valentines, or anywhere else for that matter. Just make sure to reserve a chocolate factory tour ahead of time, because the tours go in very small groups and the spaces fill up quickly.

3. Take A Train Ride To Castle Chillon:

It takes about an hour and a half to get there, so the trip may take the better part of the day, but the scenery of the lake and the small towns on the train ride (even in winter) is beautiful, and if you want to see a romantic castle for Valentines in Geneva, this is it. The castle’s recorded history dates back to about the year 1005 and was originally comprised of 100 different buildings that were fused together over the years to make one large structure. Open to the public are some of the main rooms like the great halls, some bedrooms, the courtyards and the caves – some of which have been staged to reflect what they might have looked like when they were originally in use.

4. Take A Valentine’s Day Cruise On Lake Geneva:

imagesOne of the most romantic things to do in Geneva during Valentines is to take a cruise of Lake Geneva. There are special Valentines evening cruises that you can book with a special dinner, but the CGN (the people in charge of the ferry boats and the cruise boats) also run daily cruises and commutes every day to other cities on the lake. So you don’t have to book the special Valentine’s Evening cruise to enjoy the scenery of Lake Geneva. CGN runs the ferries once a day (weather permitting in winter) which visit the small towns along the lake as far away as Lausanne. Just make sure you check the schedule to catch the ferry back if you stop in one of the towns to sight-see, although many people take the ferry out and then the train back when they find a particularly inviting town where they want to shop and have Valentine’s dinner at a local and quiet country bistro. Any way you go, however, it’s a relaxing day of shopping and sightseeing with your Valentine around one of the most beautiful lakes in the world.
